Tinplate prices followed, with some delay, the increase of other steel products in the Middle East market.

Since early March, prices of tinplate have increased by nearly $100 per tonne.

Can makers are offered 0.32mm tinplate now at about $800 per tonne while thicknesses below 0.25mm fetch $900 per tonne.

Turkish tinplate producer Eregli, till recently offering discounts of about $30 per tonne below West European tinplate producers, offers now at similar or even higher prices for exports to the Middle Eastern countries, according to MeSteel, an online portal on the Middle East steel. Shortage of supplies is the main reason behind the recent hikes.

Meanwhile, Thai beam producers, Siam Yamato recently re-entered the Middle East beam market, by offering universal beams and columns to Dubai market at levels of $610 per tonne CFR Dubai.
