NOTE (a)

 

·       Conversion tables are approximate and are only given as working indication for FORCAST purposes.

·       Hardness conversion is proscribed in any case. Orders compulsorily have to be realised and measured according to the hardness scale specified on the purchase order or on the drawing.

·       Values are round numbers. Whether more precision is needed, refer to reference tables (ASTM A427, ASTM E140, Equotip, ...).

·       In order to avoid confusions, hardness symbols notations (HV, HB, HRc, ...) have to be respected for each standard (refer to notes).

 

NOTE (b)

 

·       Symbol :     HV (some standards indicate DPH or DPN).

·       Vickers test is generally made under a load of 30 kgf and is referenced as HV30.

·       Official standard : ASTM E92 (description, precautions, ...).

 

NOTE (c)

 

·       Symbol :     HFRSc («  Hardness Forged Roll Scleroscope Model  c »).

                         HFRSd («  Hardness Forged Roll Scleroscope Model  d  »).

·       Calibration for forged steel.

·       “ MODEL c ” Direct reading from the rebound height.

      “ MODEL d ” Hardness reading on graduated dial.

·       Official standards :    ASTM E448 (description, precautions, etc.).

                                         ASTM A427 (conversion HFRSc Û HV).

·       ASTM E448 standard only differentiates the two equipments by the reading method (rebound or dial). Theoretically hardness values are announced as identical. However, some non-official tables show a difference.

·       ASTM A427 official conversion table stops at 65 HFRSc, values in brackets are extracted from ALCOA conversion table and are given as information.

·       Standard calibration :  Japanese origin testing block ( brand YAMAMOTO).

·       Values “ C ” or “ D ” are identical. Only the reading method varies  Þ  “ C ” (rebound height), “ D ” (on graduated dial).

·       Official standards :    JIS B7727 (equipments description)

                                         JIS Z2246 (measure method).

·       Conversion tables : conversion tables result from rolls measurements at FORCAST.

·       Symbol :     HRc

·       HRc  test is made under a total load of 150 kgf with a 120° conical diamond penetrator.

·       Official standards :    ASTM E18 (description, ...)

                                         ASTM E140 (conversion HRc  -  HV - HB - HSc).

 

NOTE (g)

 

·       Symbol :     HB

·       BRINELL test is made under a load of 3000 kgf with a tungsten carbide  ball diameter 10 mm.

·       Official standards :    ASTM E10 (description, ...)

                                         ASTM E140 (conversion HRc - HV - HB - HSc).

 

NOTE (h et i)

 

·       Symbol :     LD  (tool in sintered carbide)

                         LE  (tool in synthetic diamond).

·       Calibration : standards provided from the manufacturer

      ASTM A956 official standard (description, precautions, ...). Preceding conversion refers to handbook and conversion tables of the manufacturer (vertical impact). Nevertheless, measures made on rolls in workshops show that there is a considerable variation for high hardness levels (>600 HV).
